Draft genome sequence of Paenibacillus sp. strain OSY-SE, a bacterium producing the novel broad-spectrum lipopeptide antibiotic paenibacterin.
A strain of Paenibacillus sp., OSY-SE, was isolated from soil and found to produce a novel lipopeptide antibiotic. The antibiotic, paenibacterin, is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. Paenibacterin is biosynthesized by a nonribosomal peptide synthetase pathway. Here we report the draft genome sequence of Paenibacillus sp. OSY-SE.

Two novel, isomeric compounds, coumamidines gamma 1 and gamma 2, were isolated from fermentations of an actinomycete. The structures were elucidated spectroscopically using 2D NMR correlation experiments and mass spectral data. The coumamidines were found to be close structural relatives of the cinodines (LL-BM123 gamma 1 and gamma 2).

Conclusive proof for the structure of hediamine was obtained by its comparison with the isomeric lactam (4), by chemical transformation, and by means of spectroscopic techniques (UV, IR, MS, NMR).
